General Race Information
Q. When is the Race?
A. The Race will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017. The Race start time will be at 9am for the 5K and 9:30am for the 1-mile Family Walk.
Q. Where is the Race?
A. The Race will be held Louisville Slugger Field, 401 E Main Street, Louisville, KY 40202.
Q. How much is the registration fee?
A. $30 for the 5K or 1-mile Family Walk. $35 for a timed 5K entry. Youth, ages 4-18, are $15 for the 5K or 1-Mile Family Walk and $20 for a timed 5K entry. Virtual Participants (who do not attend, but have their shirts mailed to them) are $40 to cover the cost of mailing the shirt.
Q. Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
A. No, your registration fee helps defray the costs of producing the Race and is not considered tax-deductible. However, any amount that you choose to donate above the entry fee is tax-deductible.
Q. What is included in the registration fee?
A. You will get a Race number, a Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® long-sleeved t-shirt, and a great feeling! Thorntons will also have complimentary pre-Race refreshments available to participants.
Q. How can I register?

Q. How will I receive my Race packet including t-shirt?
A. You may pick up your packet the week prior to the Race or on Race day. Our Pink Ribbon Store and Race Headquarters will once again be in the Sears Wing of Oxmoor Center (7900 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville). The store will be open Friday, October 6 - Thursday, October 12 from 11am-8pm daily except for Sunday, October 8 (1-5pm) and Thursday, October 12 (11am-7pm). Packets and merchandise can be picked up on Friday, October 13 at Louisville Slugger Field from noon-7pm. If you belong to a team of 30+ members, you may be able to have your shirts delivered to you. Have your captain call the Komen Kentucky office at (502) 495-7824 to arrange details.
Q. How long is the Race?
A. The Race is a 5K route, which is approximately 3.1 miles. There is also a shorter route option that is 1 mile. You may choose to walk or run either route. If you are unable to walk or run, you can still register and join us on Race day. We are always looking for people to cheer on our runners and walkers.
Q. How can I become a volunteer?
A. The success of the Louisville Race depends heavily on the support we receive from our volunteers in the months leading up to the Race and on Race Day. There are many ways you can get involved, for more information, click here.
Q. Are pet and strollers allowed at the event?
A. Pets are discouraged at the event, but strollers are permitted.
Q. What if it rains?
A. Komen holds the right to cancel or change the date or location of the Race in its sole discretion, including in the circumstance of extreme weather. It is likely, however, that the event will happen rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.
Q. Does the Komen Race for the Cure® require fundraising?
A. You are not required to fundraise, but we do encourage all participants to support Komen with tax-deductible donations (from themselves, friends, co-workers, or family members). Just imagine the impact... if every Race participant raises just $100 in addition to their registration fee, we would bring in an additional $250,000 to support local screenings, treatment services, and educational programs in our community!
Q. Does the money raised by the Race stay in our community?
A. Yes! Up to seventy-five percent of the net income from the Race stays right here in our community to fund vital breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs. The remaining twenty-five percent supports Komen’s global research and training grants program.
Q. Where do I send donations?
A. Donations may be made online through this website or brought or mailed to: Komen Kentucky, ATTN: Louisville Race for the Cure, 1201 Story Ave, Ste 205, Louisville, KY 40206. For offline donations on behalf of an individual participant or a team, please include that information along with your cash or check.
Q. What are some ways I can fundraise individually or for my team?

Q. Is there a deadline for fundraising?
A. All donations made on behalf of a team or individual that are received by November 30, 2017 will be credited to the individual or team fundraising total.
Q. How do I form a team?
A. To be considered an "official" team, you will need 5 or more registered members by the morning of the Race. You can form a team or join a team online. For more information, contact us at (502) 495-7824 or at email@example.com.
Q. What are the benefits of a team?
A. Forming or joining a team multiplies the fun you will have on Race day. You can create a team to celebrate a survivor or honor someone you have lost. You can also create a corporate, school, or church team to get your entire group involved.
Q. Do teams have to fundraise?
A. Teams are not required to fundraise but we strongly encourage securing donations to help us provide funds for breast cancer research, programs, and services. Fundraising as a team can be fun. Click here to get a list of fundraising event ideas your team can do.
Q. One of my team members registered as an individual when they meant to join my team. How do they correct this?
A. Please contact (502) 495-7824 to get this corrected.
Q. Can donations made to a team be split or shared among team members?
A. We are unable to split or transfer online donations between individual and team accounts once they have been entered into the website and confirmed. If you need assistance with dividing a gift, please call us at (502) 495-7824 or mail or bring that donation to the Komen Kentucky office (1201 Story Ave, Ste 205, Louisville, KY 40206), along with specific instructions as to how it should be split.
Q. Will there be an area for my team to meet-up on Race day?
A. Yes! We are bringing back Team Tailgate this year for fun pre- and post-Race experiences. Various incentives such as complimentary spaces, tents, tables, etc. will be announced for teams that meet certain fundraising or membership levels. Stay tuned for more information.
