Your Support is Appreciated!

Amy Pehlke, Bd Pres

Happy Derby! As the new Susan G. Komen Kentucky Board President, I want to thank you for supporting our organization. We appreciate your efforts to help in our fight against breast cancer.

Komen Kentucky had a busy spring. Last month was National Minority Health Month, and we featured the "Know Your Girls" video on Facebook and encouraged women to start discussions about breast health with their family and friends. Increasing awareness and addressing health disparities are some of the best ways Komen can reach its Bold Goal of reducing breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by 50% by 2026.

On March 8th, we hosted our 15th annual Pink UnTied and thanks to many generous sponsors, volunteers, auctidonors and guests, we raised almost $150,000 to fund breast cancer research and local treatment programs and services.

Our grant board approved the 2019/20 grantees: congratulations to St. Joseph Hospital Lexington, UofL/James Graham Brown Cancer Center, Flaget Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Berea, King's Daughter Medical Center and University of Louisville Hospital.

In closing, I would also like to thank our amazing board members for their contributions of time, talent, and treasure, and introduce our newest board members: Jennifer Adams; Dennis Doherty, MD; Brent Eisele, JD; Alexa Hix; Ashley Lankford, MD; and Haley Cadima. We are excited to have them on the leadership team.

I'm looking forward to a great year and hope you'll continue to be involved!

Best regards,

Amy Pehlke signature

Survivor Spotlight

Stephanie Good

Stephanie GoodStephanie Good of Louisville was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in January 2017. After a double mastectomy in July and chemotheraphy, Stephanie was motivated to participate in her first Race for the Cure in October of that year. Read how else she's gotten involved with Komen Kentucky here.

Women like Stephanie are the inspiration for what we do at Komen Kentucky and why we work hard to fund research and share information about breast cancer and treatment options, among other things. If you are willing to share your Survivor story to provide hope and encouragement to others, please contact us

Volunteer Spotlight

April 7-13 was Volunteer Appreciation Week. SGK was founded and operated by volunteers for many years. We understand the important roles these individuals play and its impact on our success. Hats off to the many people who support SGKK throughout the year with their time and service. We are genuinely grateful for all you do as we work to reach our vision of "a world without breast cancer."  THANK YOU!

Emmanuel Bryant and Wade GreegorTwo individuals who have continuously shown their commitment to Komen KY over the years are our two pink-haired friends: Emmanuel Bryant (left) and Wade Greegor, also known as "The Pink Crusader." For all the boxes they've carried, hours they've volunteered, pictures they've had taken, people they've recruited, smiles they've brought, and money they've donated, we love that they have made Komen Kentucky one of their charities of choice!

Race for the Cure Dates & Why You Should Run a 5K

Race for the CureIf you've been thinking about getting into shape, training for a 5K is a great way to do it. Research shows that exercise and eating right can reduce your risk of breast cancer and other health problems. For more reasons why running is beneficial (and how to begin a training program), check out this informative article on verywellfit.com.  We especially love #5 (support a good cause), which brings us to the Race for the Cure.

Mark your calendar for our upcoming Races:

Parade of PinkLouisville's will be held Saturday, October 12th at the Louisville Water Tower and Lexington's Race for the Cure will return to downtown Lexington on Saturday, October 5th. Stay tuned for more information about these events.

Now is a great time to begin training, organizing your team, and start brainstorming your fundraising ideas. It is also the perfect time to consider becoming a sponsor or joining the planning committee! If you are interested in learning more about the events, please contact the office
