October 2018

Celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Komen Kentucky!

Lynda Weeks

Women have a 1 in 8 lifetime risk, and men, a 1 in 1,000 lifetime risk, to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Every minute around the world, someone dies from the disease. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE…and why Susan G. Komen® is working to find the cures. However, we can’t do it alone, WE NEED YOUR HELP.

To support Komen Kentucky and to learn more about our efforts, we encourage you to register for our upcoming Races. The Louisville Race for the Cure is on October 13 at our NEW LOCATION:  University of Louisville ShelbyHurst Campus (450 N. Whittington Pkwy) and the Lexington Race is on October 27 at Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza (120 N. Limestone). New to both races this year are participant medals - we feel that every registered participant is a champion for breast cancer, and thus, deserves to be recognized.

We are fortunate that both Races are still going strong after 23 years and are thankful for the sponsors, volunteers, participants, and donors who continue to make this possible. Please join us at one (or both) of these events, as we show Kentuckiana WHAT PINK MAKES POSSIBLE!

These events serve as our main fundraising sources for critical breast cancer research, as well as next year's grants to LOCAL medical and non-medical partners to provide breast health screenings, treatment support services, and patient navigation.

As you can see below, October is a busy month for us since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. While we work year-round "to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer,' October truly is our month to shine. We hope you will find a way to get involved and shine with us!

Sincerest gratitude,

Lynda Weeks' signature

Langley Properties

Langley Properties is a proud sponsor of the Lexington Race for the Cure. They provide the Lexington Green Trolley so that medically fragile survivors and their families can participate in the Race; and this year, they are providing space at their Lexington Green Lakeside Pavilion for the Lexington Race packet pick up from October 21-26. Palmers Restaurant will be hosting a give-back night on October 25, as well.

Langley Properties became committed to the Komen cause when Alison, a beloved employee, was diagnosed with breast cancer. While Alison lost her hard-fought battle with the disease last October, it is in her honor that Langley Properties partners with Komen Kentucky to continues to provide much needed support and benefits to Kentucky survivors. Thank you Langley Properties for being a Lexington Race for the Cure sponsor.
